Reflection about LSEC 2103

The English course was very interesting and useful to me, because I have had learned a couple of new things such as, how to select and use in-line citation in my reports, also I learned about the Bibliography and how to prepare it with the APA formatting, and how to arrange the database which can help me to organize the references.

Also I learned how to prepare the outline first before start writing the report and I think this very important point because it can help to sort ideas and to order the events. And I learned to summaries tow essays at the same time and it was a big challenge for me, but the teacher help me and I exceeded the difficulties.

In fact most of this activity I did it for the first time, so I gained new information which is really improved my English skills and absolutely will help me in my life especially in my work, so I think I’m now able to write a good professional essay or any kind of reports with good exiting forms especially the conclusion it was my weakness, so I skip that.

The course contained very valuable information about the writing technique , but unfortunately the period was too short, so in my opinion to increase it in the future if it’s possible.

Fossil Fuel

Fossil fuel is the fuel which used for the production of fossil energy, and it is extracted from fossil materials such as coal coking, coal black oil, natural gas, and petroleum which are extracted from the earth ground and burn up in the air with oxygen to produce heat which used in all fields.

The combustion of fossil materials based on the element carbon compounds, when the combustion of the carbon and oxygen gas emits energy in the form of heat, in addition to the emission of carbon dioxide and other chemicals such as nitrogen oxide and soot and quantities of particles.

The industrial revolution in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries coincided with the use of fossil energy in the technical field, especially coal at that time. In the present day, crude oil plays a major role in meeting the energy needs due to the ease of extraction and processing and transportation, which makes it more expensive. On the other hand the burning of fossil fuels is one of the key factors for air pollution and causing global warming resulting in turn from gases envelop the airspace and prevent the reversal warming issued by the land of its move to the outside of the planet, causing a rise in global temperatures, increasing desertification and drought, so "According to a new U.N. report, the global warming outlook is much worse than originally predicted. Which is pretty bad when they originally predicted it would destroy the planet"( Global Warming. Political Humor. 2012, February 3).

Based on the current methods used to estimate the reserves of the fossil fuel that can be extracted with a payoff material, of  using coal standing 150 year and 60 year for the gas, also about 40 years for the crude oil, bearing in mind that the amount of energy consumption remained stable.
So it is expected in the coming decades and the arrival of peak of the energy requirement, which will increase the height of the oil production. And this is expected to decrease the volume of oil production, which means that supply gap must be bridged through lower power consumption, and using alternative energy sources such as renewable energy for example, and that is dispensed slowly from fossil fuels as the main source of energy.

Renewable energy is energy derived from natural resources that are renewed or that cannot be implemented (sustainable energy). And it is usually not arise from residues such as carbon dioxide or harmful gases and it is not increase the  global warming as it happens when the combustion of fossil fuels or nuclear waste resulting from the harmful strong nuclear reactors. Renewable energy produces from wind, water and sun, can also be produced from the movement of the waves and tides or geothermal energy as well as from agricultural crops and trees producing oils. And there are many countries developed plans to increase the proportion of renewable energy production to cover its energy needs by 20% of consumption in 2020 such as United Arab Emirates.

The Arab Emirates, one of the largest oil producing countries, it also owns large reserves of natural gas, but it is thanks to the foresight of its wise leadership and outlook insightful for the future they realized that natural energy sources such as gas, coal, oil, iron and other day will come and inexhaustible, while renewable energy lingers not, in addition to the suffering of the world today of problems in the environment.

The UAE was one of the first countries that have contributed to the protection of the planet in order to sustainability and the provision of life renewable for humans, so it is obvious that the UAE today is the leading renewable energy clean; and so out of the consciousness of the environment and harness advanced technologies in order to obtain clean energy, sustainable, such as energy solar and nuclear. Stated Mohammed bin Dha'en Al Hamili, Minister for Energy. "The Ministry is vigorously pursuing efforts to gather the relevant information and statistics to support research programmers. We are keen on promoting alternative energy resources as an essential prerequisite for sustainable development"(ArabianBusiness.com, 2007, September 1).

The tireless efforts made by the State to develop ambitious plans and innovative in the field of clean energy are the commitments and efforts of the characteristic line with the vision of the late - God willing - Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, who believed in the need to protect the environment and conserve natural resources for future generations , bearing solid foundations for sustainable development that the leadership want to state their approach and continued to abide by them.

UAE is Interesting the subject of diversification of energy sources, and put it at the forefront of priorities implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, may God protect him when he said “The UAE is striving to develop and boost its rich resources and expertise in the international energy markets and enhance its leading role as a world centre for renewable energy research and development” (May 22, 2013, Dubai Supreme Council of Energy).

Emerging the nuclear energy as an option optimized for the United Arab Emirates because they use technology safe and environment friendly and reliable, it is also economically feasible, and capable of delivering large amounts of electricity, and will contribute to nuclear energy in the diversification of energy supplies in the state with ensuring energy security in the future.

And Masdar company established in 2006, has joint pilot project with the Water and Electricity Authority, Abu Dhabi solar energy, through which the installation of panels Photoelectric on the roofs of several government buildings, especially in Abu Dhabi; terms of working panels to convert energy sunlight directly into electrical energy can be stored in special batteries; to be used as the absence of the sun.
Said His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, CEO of Masdar, “With the demand for energy rising exponentially, the region is undergoing a major transformation in how it generates electricity. In fact, the Middle East is poised for major investments in renewables, and Shams 1 proves the economic and environmental advantage of deploying large-scale solar projects” (  Masdar Launches Shams 1,  2013, April 4).

Also Shams Station 1 project with amounts to its ability productivity 100 MW, is the largest Station in the world to convert solar energy into electrical energy, and is considered the project from One of Company the source of projects and the project aims for the provision of the 7% of the needs of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi from renewable energy development economic.
There is no doubt that the UAE has made great strides in the field of sustainable energy, and its ambitions to find a balance environmental, and safe sources of energy, has become a competitor in the level of many developed countries, and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. “This urges us to continue planning for the future and to work to build the human resources and technological capabilities, which will make prosperous and sustainable future for future generations”( UAE - The Official Web Site - News. 2012, February 4).

Is Mars the key to our origins?

Eight-month journey to Mars of more than half a billion kilometers to detect the presence of the lives was and still a real victory for NASA in 2012. Missions were equipped laboratories to examine Martian soil and which gave some positive results, consistent with the presence of organisms, And enabling NASA revealed some puzzling discoveries made by the Mars flight investigations in the mid-1970s.
On the other hand Dr. Gilbert Levin, who work in the laboratory tests, said that results can not be easily castaway, because they found evidence of strange chemical reactions on the surface of Mars, while some scientists think it could be a ploy by NASA to gain funding from the U.S. Congress of 2.5 billion $, But NASA is seeking to provide hard facts to justify its stance on future missions and Mars may be fit to live in, because they think that the common characteristics with life on Earth ,which is considered by some as merely curious only.

Koh-I-Noor and the jewel in the British crown with a dark past

Kohinoor diamond precious priceless, it’s old more than 5,000 years. And this jewel, whose name means "Mountain of Light" can be inserted in the list of collections precious ,and stolen by colonizers of the country that colonized, and the ownership of this diamond moved to different kings before  reached to the Queen (Victoria) Maharaja in 1849, and became the property of the crown Royal until today.
Unfortunately the diamond in this day became controversial claim and bargaining between the original owners aspiring to return to their property and the dispute and conflict ongoing between India and Britain over the ownership of this diamond. Although there is a large consensus among experts ancient treasures that 'Kohinoor' belonging to Indian Mughal Empire, But Britain refused repeatedly demands made by the parliamentary groups and partisan Indian and Indian activists in the field of historical research and archaeological need to re-gem 'Kohinoor' to native.
In fact the first mention of it was in the diary of King Babur, founder of Mughal Empire Indian who said that the price could feed the population of the entire universe for at least two days and these actually shows how the diamond is very precious and priceless and explain the conflict between the two countries.
